Breath of Fresh Air for Glyde-in Community Learning Centre

State Member for Fremantle, Simone McGurk, has presented the Glyde-In Community Learning Centre in East Fremantle with a $63,649 Lotterywest grant towards the construction of a new art shed.

The grant will allow the centre to build, furnish and equip the new art shed, restore the grounds and upgrade their computer room.

The new shed is already under construction and is expected to be completed by the end of January 2018.

The project has also been supported by the Town of East Fremantle ($25,000) and the Federal Government’s Stronger Communities program ($5,000). The centre itself will fund the balance of the project.

State Member for Fremantle, Simone McGurk, said that the grant would deliver better facilities for local residents to learn new skills and stay engaged with the community.

“Glyde-in has a special place in the hearts of East Fremantle residents. For almost forty years, Glyde-In has provided a space for residents to gather, connect and learn,” Ms McGurk said while visiting the centre.

Centre Coordinator, Ann Reeves was looking forward to using the new space. “Our old art shed, a single garage, has been demolished to make way for a larger room,” she said.

“With 700 members, we’re looking forward to using the new space for art, language and life courses in time for our 2018 program.”
