Local parents applauded for taking up the immunisation fight
Member for Fremantle Simone McGurk today spoke at the launch of a local organisation committed to promoting the benefits of immunisation within the community.
Ms McGurk said when it comes to immunisation we must be guided by science, which is overwhelming in support of immunisation.
“There is some confusion in the public domain about immunisation however the benefits of immunisation far outweigh any risk,” Ms McGurk said.
“Research about immunisation has come such a long way but unfortunately still not enough parents are getting their children immunised.
“The fuss about immunisation can be compared to climate sceptics, who rely on personal perception and hearsay to refute the clear scientific consensus that human activity is contributing to global warming.
“Similarly, science is firmly on the side of immunisation.”
Ms McGurk spoke at the launch of Immunisation Alliance WA today, which was started by a group of Fremantle women.
“Immunisation Alliance WA is a great initiative from local parents, who want to raise their children in as much of a natural environment as possible, but know that the responsible thing to do, both for their children and their community, is to immunise,” Ms McGurk said.
“They are an independent group of parents, health professionals and activists focused on promoting the benefits of immunisation within the community.
“The more people that get immunised the better protected we all are.”
